Liverpool reject Newcastle bid for Andy Carroll

Liverpool are reported to have rejected a loan bid by Newcastle United to have Andy Carroll back at Tyneside.

It was widely reported on Sunday evening that Newcastle had requested to take back the player they sold to Liverpool for £35 million 18 months ago.

But it has since emerged that Toon's bid was turned down by Liverpool, although it is not known whether the terms or the idea of the loan was rejected.

The news comes amid rumour that the England striker is not part of manager Brendan Rodgers's long-term plans.

Liverpool signed striker Fabio Borini from Roma earlier this week while they are keen to tie down Luis Suarez.

Carroll was regarded as a flop for most of last season at Anfield, although he sparked into life late in the season.

West Ham have also shown interest in signing Carroll.
