The 26-year-old has agreed terms on a two-year contract extension that keeps him at the club till June 2017.
Luis said: 'Last season was the best of my career so far and I'm happy to continue making history here.
'I feel important in the dressing room and I want to help Atlético to return to the top which is where they deserve to be.'
The Brazilian defender joined Atlético from RC Deportivo La Coruña for a reported fee of €12m in 2010 and has played 63 games for the club in the Spanish Liga while earning UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Europa League honours.
