AVB: Pay or forget Modric

Andre Villas-Boas says any club interested in Luka Modric must meet Tottenham's condition.

The midfielder has refused to join Tottenham Hotspur for pre-season prepation.

The Spurs manager said: 'This can be resolved in one of two ways. One is that the teams pay what Tottenham is asking and the other is that the player continues with us next season.

'Unfortunately, he is going to be fined by the club. He's a player we should respect for all that he has given Tottenham over the years but the president (Daniel Levy) believes that the fact that he is not present shows a lack of professional behaviour. The club decided to take action and fine him. This kind of revolt by a player is nothing new but I think that the club should protect itself.

'Modric is a player who has always attracted attention from a lot of teams but he’s always acted very professionally.'
