Paul Reid dumps Adelaide for Sydney FC

Sydney FC have completed the signing of former Adelaide player Paul Reid on a one-year contract.

The 33-year-old defensive midfielder, who started his playing career in Wollongong before moving to England, Melbourne and Thailand said he's happy to be back in his hometown.

Reid said: 'It’s definitely going to be a special time, my family are all here and it’ll be great to be playing in front of them.

'When the opportunity arose to come back and trial at Sydney FC it was too good to refuse.

'It’s always hard to come into a new team but it felt really comfortable the first day and they really welcomed me on board. It plays a big part when you go to a new club so I feel at home here and I’m really looking forward to helping the team improve on where Sydney finished last season.'

Sydney FC coach Ian Crook said Reid is 'a very good player'.

Crook said: 'Reidy has been a very good player over a long period of time.

'He gives us some experience and strength in the middle of the park. Defensively he’s strong in the midfield but he is also a winner, a good pro and he will help get us to where we are trying to get.'
