Perez: Santiago Bernabéu Stadium will be a first

The Santiago Bernabéu today celebrates 65 years as the home of Real Madrid. Inaugurated on 14 December, 1947 when Madrid played Os Belenenses.

The Whites defeated the Portuguese team Os Belenenses 3-1. Barinaga scored the first goal scorer at the ground, while a double from Chus Alonso also contributed to the final victory.

From its earliest days, the Madrid ground has been a world-class venue in the world of football and source of pride for all those who support Real. In 1955, it was the name of the stadium was changed memory of Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez says the club has the plan of making the stadium the best in the world.

'We’re going to completely envelop our stadium in a skin, which will be a first in world architectural design. The Bernabéu will thus become a unique stadium, indisputably the best in the world.'
