Ferdinand hurt by thrown object

Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand has sustained a head wound after he was hit by an object in the game against Manchester City.

Ferdinand sustained the injury while celebrating Robin van Persie's winning goal in the game.

The visitors beat Manchester City 3-2 in the game at the Etihad Stadium.

Greater Manchester Police said no arrests had been made in relation to the case.

While trying to recover from the injury, a City fan ran on to the field towards Ferdinard, but was stopped by City goalkeeper Joe Hart before he could reach the defender.

The man was then taken away by police officers.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said it was 'unfortunate' that the object had been thrown.

He said: 'That shouldn't happen. The same thing happened at Chelsea, which was masked by all the other things. We could have done without that.

'We can do without that, after a great game between two sides.'
