The Manchester City centre-back whose
contract has ended will be able to leave for free.
And
Liverpool boss Rodgers wants him to help plug the gap left in the heart of his
backline by the retiring Jamie Carragher.
He is still in the market for a top-line
defender and is keen to land Brazilian hardman Douglas, 25, from FC Twente.
But Rodgers is after Ivory Coast defender Toure, 32, as well to give him more depth, with Sebastian Coates also likely to leave Anfield and doubts over Martin Skrtel.
Toure joined the Etihad side from Arsenal in a
£16million deal.
