Andy Carroll ruled out with hamstring injury

West Ham striker Andy Carroll has been ruled out for between five to six weeks with a hamstring injury.

The 23-year-old on-loan striker suffered the injury in their game against Fulham.

A scan has revealed that Carroll's hamstring injury is serious, ruling him out of one Capital One Cup and four Premier League games for West Ham.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce said: 'We were ready to bring him off and unfortunately on that last jump he got hit by Brede Hangeland and that twisted his body and pulled his hamstring by the looks of it.

'He is just so gutted because he has got injured and he can't go to England, that is why he is most disappointed because he wanted to get off there.

'We are going to play him and hopefully he will play every week for us and score goals. Obviously Roy Hodgson is going to pick him - he wants to do well for us and he wants to do well for England.

'I think what is important is the delight of everybody when Andy walked through the door.

'I think it made us all feel that little bit better when you have got a £35m centre-forward walk through the door whether you have got him on loan or not.

'He is a quality centre-forward and he is our number one.'
