The 34-year-old defender is yet to agree on personal terms but talks will take place over the next 48 hours.
On Tuesday, QPR and Spurs agreed a fee of £7.5m for Tottenham defender Michael Dawson, 28.
Neither deal has been confirmed but privately QPR hope both players will join them before Saturday's trip to Norwich.
Though Dawson is yet to undergo medical or sign personal term, it is believed the deal will soon be concluded.
If the Dawson's deal is concluded, Nottingham Forest will be due 10% of the fee from a sell-on clause inserted when they sold Dawson to Spurs in 2005.
