Kuszczak surprise by recall
Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak says he was 'surprised' by his re-call to the national team.
The 30-year-old has not featured for the national side in two years but injury to Arsenal's Wojciech Szczesny gave Waldemar Fornalik to call him into the squad for FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Moldova.
Kuszczak said: 'It was a surprise for me. For some time I was no longer in the picture and now I'm this close. Everything is going as it should: I changed club, I've had a good pre-season, I play regularly, I'm in good shape and now I received a call to the national team - these are only positive things.
'All the time I believed that playing regularly would bring me back to the team and indeed it did. I return to the team after a long break but I hope that it will show my good side and the coach writes my name on the teamsheet. I will try to show the coach my best and I look optimistically to the future.
'This match could be my first official one but to me every game is important. Against Belgium I made my debut in a Montenegro shirt and then we played with Latvia but it's very important to be in the best possible light in front of a home crowd.
'This is a good team which has a number of players who play in the strongest European clubs. We are optimistic and if we implement what we have been coached there will be no problem.'
The other match in Group H tomorrow sees Moldova host England.
Sept. 6, 2012.
