Gordon Igesund: I'm very pleased and proud of my team

South Africa head coach Gordon Igesund says he is 'very pleased and proud' of the performance of his team against Mozambique after they defeated Mozambique 2-0 in an international friendly match played on Tuesday at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

Goals from Bernard Parker on either side of the break ensured victory for the home side.

Igesund: 'There were a lot of positives as this was a very difficult ten days for us, especially with all the travelling. This was a very good result for the players and they worked hard for it. I also had a chance to play some of the youngsters. Overall I am very pleased and proud of the performance but I am the first to admit there is still a lot of work to be done.

'My aim is to have this team ready for 2013 Afcon and we seem to be on the right direction. Had we been more composed in the area we could have scored more goals. The players really enjoyed themselves, but at the end of the day we won and that is the pleasing part.'

Bafana Bafana and Mozambique had met on three previous occasions – two friendly matches in 1995 and 2008, and a Cosafa Cup game in 2001. Bafana Bafana won 3-2, 2-0 and 3-0 respectively.

Bafana Bafana’s next game is an international friendly match with Poland in October.
