Man jailed for punching goalkeeper Chris Kirkland

The man who punched Sheffield Wednesday's Chris Kirkland has been jailed.

Aaron Cawley, 21, ran into the field during a Championship football match and pushed the goalkeeper to the ground moments after conceding an equaliser in the 76th minute.

Cawley from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, pleaded guilty at Sheffield Magistrates Court to assault and entering the field.

He was given a 16-week jail sentence and a five-year football banning order.

The court heard Cawley had been drinking heavily and had already breached two previous banning orders.

The Yorkshire derby ended in a 1-1 draw.
